We’re thrilled to welcome a new face to the De Necker Dentistry family in Melville—Dr Johan van der Linden, a talented, passionate, and dynamic young dentist who will soon be stepping into Dr Gys de Necker’s shoes over the coming years, under his expert mentorship.
Dentistry runs deep in Johan’s veins. With both parents in the field—and a father who is a Maxillofacial Surgeon—dinner table talk often revolved around teeth, inspiring a passion that has shaped his career. After briefly exploring engineering at the University of Pretoria, Johan quickly realised that his true calling was in healthcare, where he could directly impact people’s lives through their smiles.
A Holistic, Family-First Approach
Johan’s philosophy is simple but powerful: treat every patient as if they were family. He believes in building trust, understanding his patients’ individual needs, and offering conservative, comprehensive care tailored to their long-term wellbeing. Whether it’s aesthetic enhancements, surgical procedures, or orthodontics, his aim is always to restore confidence—one smile at a time.

For Johan, joining the team at De Necker Dentistry Melville is more than a career move—it’s an opportunity to grow under the guidance of one of South Africa’s most respected dentists, Dr Gys de Necker. “It’s a privilege to be mentored by someone with such deep knowledge and experience,” he says. “There’s so much to learn, not just about dentistry, but also about building patient relationships and running a successful practice.”
Over the next few years, Johan hopes to build on this mentorship, take on more complex cases, and remain at the forefront of dental innovation—all while preserving the warm, trusted atmosphere that makes the Melville practice so beloved.

“Over the next few years, I see myself growing into a more versatile and confident clinician by taking on increasingly complex cases and expanding the range of treatments I offer.
I aim to stay at the forefront of new technologies and techniques, ensuring my patients receive the best possible care. At the same time, I hope to further contribute to the warm, patient-centered culture that makes De Necker so unique—maintaining the welcoming environment that patients value from the moment they arrive.”
A Life Beyond the Clinic
When he’s not transforming smiles, Johan keeps things energetic. He’s played water polo since the age of 12, enjoys CrossFit (despite joking that it’s secretly trying to kill him), and has recently fallen in love with padel. He’s also an animal lover with seven dogs and four chickens—but don’t ask him to ride a horse!
He and his fiancée enjoy quiet evenings with Netflix (definitely not bookworms, he confesses), and he’s the kind of guy whose personality only kicks in after 8 a.m.—with a strong cup of coffee and a rusk, of course.
