TMJ treatment may include the following procedures:

If you have teeth missing or have a very narrow upper arch, this may contribute to the position of the lower jaw, placing pressure and compression on this area.

TMJ treatment may take up to 3 years in some cases to help healing, repositioning of the lower jaw and decompressing the condyle (usually forms part of a joint as is the round raised area at the end of a bone).

Below is what the TMJ treatment may include:

• Splint on the lower jaw

• Developing the upper jaw with orthopaedic appliances

  • Full orthodontic treatment.

For a full examination, your dentist will conduct a series of x-rays along with an hour appointment to explain the TMJ treatment.
